about Mel

Mel is passionate about walking alongside and guiding people through their journey towards healing and wellbeing. She has had a long held interest in the effects that trauma has on the mind and body and has witnessed how embodied, mindful and compassion focused approaches lead to more deeply felt and lasting change.

She has a broad range of experience drawing from mindfulness based therapies, Schema Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and somatic theories of trauma.

Mel believes in the deep healing that mindful and embodied processes offer and is committed to providing safe spaces for marginalised communities, including the queer community, black, indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC) and neurodiverse people.

experience

Mel worked in the community sector for 10 years, working with complex mental health challenges and trauma. She's worked with people across the lifespan from teenagers to the elderly. She is passionate about helping people who have had difficult life experiences find their own path to recovery and peace.

She is also a certified Breathworks mindfulness teacher, a member of the EMDR Association Australia and a member of the Australian Psychological Society. She received her Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from the University of Wollongong.

starting therapy

Whether you have seen a therapist in the past or if you're considering seeing someone for the first time, the initial contact and appointment can be stressful. Mel is aware of this and creates a professional and safe space to make it as stress free as possible and to put you at ease.

After the initial counselling session, you'll collaboratively clarify whether therapy can help, what it might look like for you and how long it might take. You can find more information about the services Mel provides here.
